The Great Smoky Mountains Railway--take a 4 hour train ride. You can have your choice of riding behind a steam engine or diesel, open or closed car, dinner trip, and other options as well.
The Appalachian Trail runs right through the heart of the Smokies. Many start the trail but few actually manage to hike it end to end. This link will give you a wealth of information on the trail should you decide to test your spirit of adeventure.
